L.I.F.E. Advocacy & Economic Empowerment
Our L.I.F.E. Advocacy Program (“Lifestyle, Information, Financial, Empowerment”) provides education in safety and survival strategies, budgeting, employment searches, medical needs, clothing and other personal needs.
When a client comes into shelter, we complete an intake and get all of the information we need to figure out what the client needs assistance with. L.I.F.E. advocates meet weekly with clients to work toward personal goals in the client’s Goal Plan.
How we can help:
- Obtaining legal documents. (Birth Certificates, Social Security Cards, State ID, or Driver’s License)
- Applying for and receiving benefits. (Food stamps, TA- Temporary Assistance, Medicaid, Unemployment, etc).
- All L.I.F.E. advocates are application assistants for Safe at Home program. We offer to apply for the program if the client requests. Safe at Home
provides a substitute address for survivors to use in place of a physical address on new records created by government agencies and the courts, such as: Driver’s License, Motor vehicle titles and registrations, public school enrollment, court documents, etc).
- We offer assistance with enrolling children in school.
- We offer assistance with housing. If the Section 8 lists are open, we help clients apply. If they are not open, we assist the clients by finding other housing resources including rentals.
- We offer weekly support groups. The groups that we offer include Healthy Relationships, Art Expressions, Special Topics (facilitated by a licensed Counselor), and SMART Recovery Substance Use Prevention.
The comprehensive program also offers financial education and resources to help clients gain economic self-sufficiency.
